History of the Station
Luton & Dunstable Hospital Radio started in 1965 at the Red House in Harpenden, Herts.
It was broadcasting to the Lister Hospital in Hitchin and to Luton & Dunstable Hospital. The Lister Hospital then opened a new larger hospital in Stevenage, Herts. in 1972 making the radio station broadcast area much wider.
In 1980 the station moved to temporary premises at Luton & Dunstable Hospital and moved again in August 1981 to our current location now comprising of two studios. This now enables us to train new members, pre interviews, show compilation, entertain guests and much more.
We now broadcast 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year with the help of a new Playout Automation System and supporting equipment.
Transmission on 1134 AM
In 2004, this became an exciting change with the addition of an AM transmitter service enabling us to broadcast to the hospital community. This was after much effort and a long fund raising campaign. We have been broadcasting on 1134 AM since the official launch date 29th August 2004.
All of our members are volunteers who give up their time to provide us with all the elements that make up our station; from Presenting, Engineering, Organisation and Administration, Fundraising and also making cups of tea!
