I can’t believe another year has flown by and once again I am attending the Lord Lieutenant’s Annual Service of Thanksgiving and Rededication for Voluntary Organisations in Bedfordshire at St Mary’s Church in Luton.

A beautiful, sunny May afternoon saw hundreds of volunteers, Police, Fire and  St John’s ambulance cadets together with a number of organisations gather at St Mary’s Church in Luton to celebrate this occasion.

VIP guests included the Duchess of Bedford, the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire and the Earl and Countess of Erroll.

The address was given by the Rt Rev Richard Atkinson OBE bishop of Bedford.

The service, was led by Rev Mike Jones, vicar of St Mary’s who included the significant contribution made to county life by voluntary organisations.

It featured a tribute from HM Lord Lieutenant Helen Nellis the theme ‘Pulling together and the power of diversity’, The Luton Community Gospel Choir, A contemporary dance piece from Next Generation Youth Theatre, and a reading ‘Desiderata’ read by Debra Knight (Nine Red).
