Elephants Parade into Luton

Elephant sculpture outside Luton Hoo

Look out, look out: (possibly) pink elephants on parade!

From 3rd July 2021, keep your eyes peeled for some brand new sculptures! Luton’s landmarks and public spaces will be awash with elephants of all colours and patterns, by Luton artists, to celebrate Keech hospice’s 30 years of service in this, the Big Trunk Trail.

It is said that elephants never forget – and you’ll never forget this staggering array of nature’s gentle giants. From purple paisley to red polka-dot, it will be a glorious sight to behold these majestic beasts as you’ve never seen them before.

But it’s not only a treat for your eyes. This vivid display will also warm your heart as you realise that it is raising vital funds for Keech’s valuable work. Local businesses will play their part by sponsoring an elephant, and at the end of the Big Trunk Trail, you can support Keech and own a part of Luton’s art history by bidding for these pieces as they go under the hammer.

This project will not only bring colour and zest to Luton, but it will bring communities together as they partake in the Big Trunk Trail. Local schools and community groups will be decorating their own elephant calves to stand proudly alongside their larger counterparts, so tracking down your own piece of elephant artwork is a must!

With at least 30 elephants to track down in only 11 weeks, the race is on to see who can spot all the sculptures first. A celebration of all things tusked, tailed, and Lutonian, it’s a perfect pachyderm paradise!
