During this month the hospital opened a Urology ‘one stop shop’. This innovative clinic provides outpatient appointment and many diagnostic tests in a single visit in a purpose built location , thereby reducing the number of visits needed to the hospital and modernise the clinic experience for our patients.
The redevelopment is underway with the ground floor of St Mary’s wing being converted into additional wards – albeit partly to be prepared for the winter pressures.
Final plans for the rest of the business case have been submitted to Luton Borough Council for approval. The decision is expected later in the year.
The Edwin Lobo unit (part of the Travelodge site the other side of the M1) is currently being refurbished to accommodate all orthopaedic activity – including the fracture clinic. It will be called the ‘Orthopaedic Hub’, and is due to open end of October.
