I am a new member and have been asked to write a short piece as way of introducing myself to fellow members.

After running my own business for thirty years restoring antique furniture, in 2011 I suffered a serious heart attack.

Following quadruple by-pass surgery and a period of recovery, I was advised that the lifting of heavy furniture around a workshop will no longer be possible, so I decided to sell up and retire. I then trained to be an advisor with the Citizens Advice Bureau, where I still volunteer.

I wanted to show some appreciation for the treatment I had received at the L&D. Having found out about hospital radio it seemed that I could combine my love of music with some hospital visiting and hopefully be of benefit to patients.

I am also a Parish Councillor and welfare officer with my local British Legion – oh and yes, two thirds of the way through a law degree with the Open University. Well, I like to keep busy.
